The HMCS Sault Ste. Marie (J334) was an "Algerine" class minesweeper of the RCN. Specifications include:
Displacement: 990 tons
Speed: 16 knots
Dimensions: 225' x 35.5' x 10.5'
Main Armament: 1 4-inch gun

The book "Minesweepers of the Royal Canadian Navy" by Macpherson (ISBN 0-920277-55-1) provides a brief war-time and post-war summary of all minesweepers. This book also includes 3 excellent photos of the Sault Ste. Marie.

This ship was in service since August of 1943 until July of 1945 when she was paid off into reserve. Eventually, the Sault Ste. Marie became a training ship over the years and was finally broken up at Sorel, Quebec in 1960.

For photos, you could try the Maritime Command Museum in Halifax - Marilyn Gurney can be of tremendous help in locating photos and she has accumulated an extensive photo library. Otherwise, the Public Archives of Canada in Ottawa may have some...these photos usually have a "PA" designation. As well, the Department of National Defence (DND) may also have some photos.
