I read Stuart Davidson's post re HMS Bulolo & the cartoon of her crashing into the quayside harbour in Algiers, having suffered steerage damage after being bombed.
My grandfather was Capt R. L. Hamer, who commanded Bulolo at the time and I remember growing up with that cartoon in the bathroom. Somewhere over the years it got lost
& I often wondered if it were possible there were other prints & if I could get a copy. Stuart Davidson's post leads me to hope that this may be possible & I'd love to find a way how.
I have some wonderful albums put together c. 1912-1916 by my grandmother Beena née Peirse showing photos of my grandfather as a young flag officer to Adm. Sir Richard Peirse, father of my grandmother Beena, when he was C-in-C East Indies Fleet.
The last mention I have of him on active service was the shelling of Smyrna in
1915. Some of these photos are marvellously evocative of the period.
