My grandfather Capt. Richard L. Hamer commanded HMS Bulolo c. 1942-44.
He was flag officer in East Indies Fleet to my great grandfather
Adm. Sir Richard Peirse in run-up to WW1 1913-16, latterly based in Port Said.
He retired post-war & became Capt. of Lifeboats for the RNLI before returning to service in 1939.I believe he also commanded Bulolo during the Normandy landings.
THere was a wonderful cartoon hanging in my grandparents house of a bomb-damaged
Bulolo crashing into the keyside in Algiers or Oran harbour I always remember. It was executed by one of the crew members.
I would love to obtain a copy of it. I also have some marvellous photos of the
East Indies fleet (HMS Swifsure) taken by my grandmother Beena née Peirse in
Bombay, where she married my grandfather.
I would be happy to share information about any of the above, including the Turkish attack on Suez & bombardment of Smyrna in 1915.
