Even though I never knew my grandfather, from MV Esso Williamsburg, his leaving and eventual demise, although still a puzzle as to exactly how, caused reverberations through the generations. It is still a touchy subject for my father, because his father ran off. He learned of it while serving himself. Now I feel as though I owe it to him to find out what kind of person he was. It is some consolation to know he was trying to make a wrong right. He will be remembered differently from the way my father thinks of him.
