USS Direct AM-90 vs. German U-Boat

Does anyone out there know anything about an engagement involving USS Direct (AM-90) and a German U-Boat that occurred on 7 July 1943 in Atlantic waters somewhere west of Gibraltar? At the time of this short but intense surface action, Direct was escorting HMS Argonaut back to the United States for repairs. Direct was successful in beating off the U-Boat attack, but eight of her crew were killed.
