my father James Calvin Dimsdale was a Boatswains mate 2nd class on the USS Direct from8/43-12/45. HE just passed away 8/4/o8. he has told us numerous stories of the times on the sip and some of the crew.i know he was on the ship during the invasion of France and he told me of shore leave in palermo,sicily.when i get more time i will let u know more.i know he told me some good stories of the skipper.
