My father, William Marker servied on HMS Tyne when she sailed from Scotland in 1944. He was in Signals and I have some photos. Sadly dad died on 18 June last year (I only wish I had seen your site before as he would have been so interested).
He was on board Tyne when the atom bomb went off at Hiroshima - and I am concvinced that that was what caused his cancer (Brain tumour).
He told me about receiving the information (and did a Radio interview with BFPO in May 2005 about the Hiroshima bomb and end of the War). He talked about being de-mobbed. I have photos taken out East.
