WWII USS Vigilance AM-324

I'm writing my father's history and he has a memory I can't verify. He said he was in port on leave, returned to the boat and found water flooding into the engine room. He said the maintenance men tried to flood the boat. they had turned on the valves. it isn't in the brief history of the Vigilance. If anyone remembers this or can corroborate this please let me know.
