SS Eryssos (in some sources spelled differently) was stopped by a German submarine close to the Straits of Messina in October 1916. The ship was sailing from Patras for Naples, Marseilles and Barcelona. She had left Patras on 7 Oct 1916 (Greeks date) 20 Oct by the Gregorian calendar. The cargo was ordered to be thrown overboard and over 100 bags of mail from Greece were seized. The ship was then allowed to proceed. I am seeking the identifiaction of the submarine.
Any help of this will be most appreciated.
