In Buchheim's U-BOAT WAR, his nonfiction basis for DAS BOOT, there are pictures in port of loading supplies aft of the tower through the galley hatch and another hatch on the foredeck for hoses, etc. Might there be the same arrangement for example with U-140 one of the most advanced boats built by Krupp near the end of WWI. This boat was one of several that operated off the US coast. Since U-140 was a prototype for the WWII boats I'm thinking they might have the same hatch arrangement.</HTML>
