Bill,
Our knowledge of what happened to various U-boat has gotten better over the past 8 years. Yes, the wreck off Dunbar is now believed to be U 74, not U 77.
The reason for this is based upon a lot more than just the description of the subamrine supposed involved in the incident off Peterhead. The key is actually the order sheets for both boats. U 74 was suppose to lay mines were the wreck off Dunbar and then return home. U 77 was suppose to lay mines off Kinniard Head and then return home. U 77 shouldn't have been off the First of Forth. Likewise, U 74 shouldn't have been as far north as were the incident with the trawlers took place and shouldn't have been out that long either.
