<HTML>Professor Norman Porteous, who was Professor Emeritus at Edinburgh University in Old Testament theology and Britiain's alst surviving WW1 Army officer died earlier this week in Edinburgh, Scotland.
After interrupting his studies to serve and see action with the 13/14th Royal Scots in France between 1917-19, Professor Porteous, as a result ofhis wartime experiences sought to effect reconciliation with his former German enemies by devolopping strong links with the University of Tubingen.he also made friends with leading German theologianswhich carried on right until 1939.
Post-war he resumed his German/Tubingen connections until his death aged 104 earlier this week-but now, with Professor Poteous's death, there are no longer any British Army ex-officrs who saw action in WW1. .</HTML>
