<HTML>Vin,

I'm with Brian on this. I think it's bogus.

The problem here is that a lot of research has been done by Robert Grant and others into exactly what wrecks the RN found during the war. The description provided by Miller simply does not match any of these.

Of the UBIII wrecks I previously mentioned, UB 55 and UB 109 can be excluded as in both cases a substantial portion of the crew, including the commander, escaped.

UB 56 is similar, though the attempt to escape was not as successful -- several men got out, but none survived. The RN found, but did not identify the wreck (Grant, "U-Boat Intelligence"). Note that Miller's account pretty much requires the RN to have identifies the wreck from all the recovered paper and other items.

As for UB 58, the fact she was lost was known (documents came up) but the wreck not identified. Indeed, RN documents cited by Grant suggest the RN pent a day diving teh wreck and thought it was actually two seperate boats...

There are no other UBIII wrecks off Dover that the RN knew about.

Best wishes,

Michael</HTML>
