<HTML>I had the pleasure to interview the late George Henry Dove, torpedoman on British submarine G10 who lived in Sunderland until well into his 90s. Fascinating man. He recalled having a smoke on the bridge in a fog off Heligoland. It was a Sunday and the submarine crew could hear the church bells ringing. My tape of his recollections is at the RN Submarine Museum, Gosport.

There are known to be 27 veterans of the Great War in the UK - there will doubtless be more who are unknown to the authorities rotting in old peoples homes. The first war generation has been allowed to pass, it is up to us to ensure that the second war generation do not pass into history before we have recorded their stories for posterity.
