I didn't know about UB27. I wonder why the crews of the flying boats were so sure that it was UC1 that they attacked. Wouldn't they have known the difference between a UC class and a UB class U-boat? Did all U-boats have their numbers painted on the conning tower? I wonder how they could have known it was UC1 (and not another UC sub) if not for some kind of visible identification on the submarine itself.
It would be great if you could find out some more about UB27.
