I am interested in the August 1915 attempt to extract escaped German POws from the UK by submarine. U-38 (Valentiner) was sent to pick up an escape group, they were limited to three men, apparently because the U-boat could only accomadate three passengers. I suspect that this must have underestimated the number of passengers that one of these boats could absorb. Has anyone any record of how many extra bodies were carried by this class at any time?
