I recently got a copy of a mine map of the area for 1916 -- while it's possible E 5 ended up somewhere she shouldn't have or hit a drifting mine, the mine threat wasn't that great. The main German minefields in E 5's patrol area had been laid at least five months earlier and were set for 12 to 14 meters depth (in other words, E 5 should only have been at risk if submerged). Operational loss, like in the case of AE 1 and E 26, can't be ruled out.
Also, I'm aware of nothing to suggest that the wreck of E 5 has been located to date.
Best wishes,
Michael
