Hi Don,
Thanks for the pics. I can say for sure that it is not Kptlt.d.R. Paul König who was the skipper when she was the Deutschland. The other 3 commanders when she was a warship, SMU 155 were Kptlt. Karl Meusel & K.Kapts. Erich Eckelmann and Ferdinand Studt. I have never seen pics of the last three and there are non on this site. Perhaps some of our European or American friends can help?
The Garnisonkirche in Wilhelmshaven has some pics of U-boat commanders of the Great War as does the Uboat Archive in Cuxhaven.
It does look as though it has been cast but would the British, at that time do something of a German U-boat commander? Who, by the way, would almost certainly been in uniform. Might it be the owner of the breakers yard or dockyard superintendent.
Can you make out any of the writing as it does look to be more continental than British.
