Thank you.

Can you elaborate on the legal status?

Military shipwrecks remain under the jurisdiction – and hence protection – of the government that lost the ship, or that government's successor. Hence, a German U-Boat from World War I still technically belongs to the German government , even though the German "Kaiserreich" is long-defunct.

I read on your website that several attempts were made between 1917 and 1919 to remove mines and torpedoes before the submarine was 'blown up' (as the newspaper sniplet from 1919 reads). Were there any bodies recovered or would UC-42 qualify as a war grave?

And if so, does the Irish Statute Book not provide protection for such graves?
