Joe,

I don't (yet) have the resources to fully sort through this one. Per Miramar, there were two HJÖRLEIFURs built by Nylands Verksted, Christiania, one built in 1906 and one built in 1908. Tonnage is very similar, at 113 grt and 118 grt respectively.

Lloyd's Register for 1912/13 shows the 1906 build becoming the WHANGAROO after previously having been the SAZANAMI MARU (and, of course, HJÖRLEIFUR).

Miramar is only marginally useful on vessels between 100 and 300 grt. It lists both HJÖRLEIFURs and that TITANIA became ALOSE and that's it.

I'm not sure if the 1908 HJÖRLEIFUR is a real vessel or not. In any case, she's not listed in LR for 1912/13 and doesn't show up as a former name either.

In any case, it would appear that the ALOSE that was mined was indeed the ex-TITANIA. I'll double check that when I get access to the LR for 1915/16.

Best wishes,
Michael
