Undoubtedly U7 was mistakenly sunk by U22.
On 20 jan. U22 departed Emden en route for Zeebrugge on her way to tranfer to the Flandern Flott. The following day they encountered a surfaced submarine which did not challenge the recognition signal and seemed to try to evade. U22 came in an attacking position and fired 2 torpedos, one of them hitting just forward the conning tower.
Many sources detail that loss among them is Verschollen by Dwight Messimer
