The info you kindly share that excludes UB-51 and UB-68 is very useful.
I had initially excluded UC-37, taking into account that on 17 March 1918 the "Waihemo" was mined off the port of Piraeus and on 21 march 1918 the "Termini" had the same fate off the island of Milos, both seemingly attributed to UC-37, but i will try to research the journeys/patrols of UC-37 in detail.
The detailed data of the journey that i have from the diary is the following:
- it was a U-Boat belonging to the Imperial German Navy.
- this particular U-Boat left from Pola on 17 March 1918 around 6:30 pm, travelling at surface.
(N.B. according to the Greek calendar, the equivalent day was 4 March 1918, because Greece, unlike Germany, was still following the old calendar until 1923). Nevertheless, the date written in the KTB has to be 17 March 1918.
- on 18 March 1918 at daytime, it was travelling at surface all day long during daylight in the Adriatic Sea, heading towards the Strait of Otranto
- on 19 March in early hours of the morning, it was travelling submerged, passing through the Strait of Otranto
- on 19 March, in the evening, it emerged to surface and from then on travelled at surface
- on 20 March it was travelling at surface all day until around 6pm . At this time, it was near the island of Zakynthos (Zante), when it submerged for about 15-20 minutes and then reemerged to surface. During reemerging process, the boat suddenly presented an inclination to the horizontal but the problem was quickly fixed.
- on 21 March, in the morning, it was travelling submerged and continued to travel submerged until around 7 pm, when it emerged outside the town of Messini (and close to the city of Kalamata/Kalamai) in the Bay of Messini in South-Western Peloponnese, Greece.
- the german crew was 33 men, including officers (I fully understand that the number of crew is very important and can be misleading)
