Hello Susan,
well, the CAITHNESS was in action with the german submarine UC 18, that time commanded by Oberleutnant zur See Wilhelm Kiel. The boat was not hit and survived that patrol only to be sunk early on the next sortie.

I have no other details on UC 18's actions, but others here might have/will have :-)
