I know that you are all desperate to hear about the location of Buoy 4 as per this forum request. Sleep soundly tonight, the job is done thanks to the UKHO which sent sent this excellent reply today:
I am pleased to confirm that the position of Buoy no 4 has been located on chart 1872 (archive series B24) ‘Calais to the River Schelde entrance’ dated 1917. Consequently we have been able to plot the coordinates as follows: 51° 5’ 37’’ N, 2° 28’ 15’’ E. Furthermore we have attached a scanned extract of the chart for your information and also include data relating to the Ruytingen (after the Outer Ruytingen sandbank) buoy no 4 from the Fleet Notices to Mariners of 1917: Fleet Notice 93 was issued 19/2/1917; Fleet Notice 141 issued 19/9/1917; Fleet Notice 698 issued 01/12/1917.
Best wishes
Chris
