Records in the UK National Archives which should have the information you want are as follows. These are volumes of documents in which there'll be entries for British Monarch:

ADM137/2962.British merchant vessels sunk, May to August 1917.
ADM137/1398. Mediterranean, Gibraltar area, German submarines, which may or may not include the area where the ship was sunk.
ADM137/4035. Enemy submarines, particulars of attacks on merchant vessels in the Mediterranean.
ADM53/36212. Refers to the log book of British Monarch. This may refer to a different ship of the same name as the log continues into September.
BT165/1719. Refers to the logbook of British Monarch up to 4 August 1917.
