Bioluminescence

An article in The Economist magazine (in 2014) states that a WW1 German U-Boat was tracked and sunk after it sailed through a patch of bioluminescent sea creatures, leaving a phosphorescent green trail in the sea. Can anyone please tell me if this is true and, if so, which U-Boat was it? Many thanks
