I noticed in the separate thread on von Schenk that MPC wrote of meeting three u-boat commanders. I am shortly to interview the last surviving child of u-boat commander Georg Gerth of UC-61 (stranded Wissant 26 July 1917). Happily, there are some pictures and documents to look forward to.
I do have a friend living in England who is the son of a WW2 u-boat commander. It made me wonder. Assuming 86 (to make the sums easy) is a good age these days, that means a birth in 1930 or afterwards. Are there lots of children around whose father was a WW1 u-boat commander?
Best wishes
