Thanks, Oliver. Another good idea bites the dust. So, two U-boats. As you say, seems like Chatterton got a bit over-excited with his story; nothing here about a collision which even this laconic French skipper would have noticed. Anyway, thank you very much for the introduction to the French website.
Translation: Dunois log: 1600-2000
Normal watch keeping duties. Spotted an enemy submarine at [] starboard; to action stations. Started saving shipwrecked crew from English steamship Q18. Spotted the conning tower of enemy submarine on starboard aft and opened fire. Continued to save shipwrecked crew using cutter No 2. Resumed normal watch keeping.
[And on the facing page:] Saved twenty crew and three officers of English steamship Q18 sunk in early morning by an enemy submarine.
