On 16 August 1918, the Queenstown-based US destroyers Downes, Sterrett and Paulding and the British airship SS.Z.16, escorting convoy CL 29 outward bound from Liverpool, prosecuted a submarine contact in the Irish Sea and were considered to have "probably damaged? a U-boat.
Is there any evidence from the German side of an actual U-boat being involved in this action?
thanks,
