Chiad,

The U-boat in question was U 82, which was forced to dive deeper to evade a steamer but not actually rammed. There was then a gunnery actual. The U-boat's commander at the time was Kplt. Hans Adam, who was awarded the Pour le Mérite on November 6, 1917.
