Time in WWI KTBs
Date: May 06, 2018 01:18PM

Up to now I have worked exclusively with WWII records, mostly translating WWII U-boat KTBs. I have just begun to translate my fist WWI U-boat war diaries, for example: [uboatarchive.net] I usually include sun and moon data for the diaries I translate but I am unsure of the timezone that the diary is kept in. WWII U-boat war diaries were kept in German Legal time. Switchover dates for daylight savings time are known with certainty. Presumably German WWI diaries were also kept in German Legal Time. That would be GMT +1 up to 30 April 1916. That was the first switchover to daylight savings time GMT +2. I presume that the Germans switched over in October and April after that but I don’t know the exact switchover dates and times. Can anyone shed some light on this or suggest where I might ask?
