USS San Diego

I am hearing some people (who will remain hidden) are saying that it is not clear USS San Diego was sunk by a mine laid by U-153. The claim is that "no one knows." Is this true that "no one knows"? I thought it was pretty obvious a mine sunk the cruiser as a torpedo would have caused it sink much faster.
