It has however raised a few questions as it appears to refer to an armed "Italian" watchboat whereas I was under the impression it was a British Drifter of the Auxillary Patrol, the Lottie Leaske, that was sunk on the 18th Dec 1915.
Do you think it is possible he would not have known it was British? the Gun size is consistent with one used on drifters and it was likely to have been new.
