Hi Alan,

that's indeed a mystery to me too. The Germans were aboard the vessel and didn't notice the real nationality. Maybe the drifter wore the sign Y 4 and they thought it must have been the Italian guard boat.
Maybe Oliver or Michael can shed any light on this case.
