No idea why they misidentied the vessel. Same sort of thing happen on October 12, 1915 when U 39 sank the RN drifter Restore of 93 grt — the U-boat thought the vessel was the armed Montenegrin steamer LT of 215 grt.

Strangely, in both cases the identification errors are repeated in Spindler's official history.
