Hello uboat.net forum members. This is my first post! I'm interested in knowing more about my great-grandfather's potential service record during WWI.

I'm aware that Herr Bredow has since passed in 2015 but am wondering if more savvy members (with more command of German) could potentially find anything.

His name was Friedrich Gnaß (also spelled Gnass). He was born 13th November 1892 in Langendreer, Bochum and died on 8th May 1958 in Berlin.

His experience was as a machinist either before or during the war. His daughter, (my grandmother) has recalled that he did serve on either a U-boat or some kind of Imperial cargo/merchant ship. For now, that is where the knowledge ends.

Thanks and regards,
-BW
