Greetings and thank you in advance.

I am writing a book about my grandfather and need to fill in some blanks. He left Portugal in 1915 en route to Providence, Rhode Island. I'm not sure which month.

While at sea, his ship, SS Roma, was stopped and boarded by a Uboat.

Can anybody identify the Uboat?

What was the protocol for boarding a passenger ship? Signals, warning shot?

What would a boarding party be armed with? Lugar, Broomhandle?

What would the crew take besides food?

Was this common in 1915. Were my grandfather and his family lucky to live, since by then anti-sub techniques had been invented for surfaced subs?

About where did it happen, and how long was the Uboat into its patrol?

Where did the Uboat berth? Was it blockading England?

Thank you
