<HTML>A similar incident, but with an American ship:
On 3 May 1944, the destroyer escort USS Menges was hit in the stern by a Gnat from U-371 in the Mediterranean. The badly damaged ship was towed to New York, where the after part of the destroyer escort USS Holder was welded to the Menges. The USS Holder had been torpedoed and badly damaged by a German aircraft off Algiers on 11 April 1944 and then also towed to New York.
