<HTML>In this case, the name came from a song, and not from merging the names of two different aeroplanes. Captain Smith evidently thought the tune, about a half-goose, half-swan named Alexander, provided a good name for a pieced-together plane, most of which had originally been called \"Ole Betsy.\" Captain Kurtz named his daughter after his plane, which seems to have worked out well for her.
