Reviewing the loss of 5 ships from convoy HX-65, however I find some are recorded as being in HX-65A and HX-65B. From what I understand of HX-65, is 18 ships sailed from Halifax on August 12th, with 21 sailing in convoy BHX-65 from Bermuda on the 11th, BHX-65 joined HX-65 at sea on the 16th. Another feeder convoy sailed from Sydney C.B.? date, which joined the HX-65 on or near the 24th.The U 48, U 57 and U 124 were the boats that attacked. U 48 sank one ship La Brea a straggler from BHX-65 on the 24th, then sank two more Athelcrest and Empire Merlin on the 25th. U 57 then sank one ship Pecten also from BHX-65, before U 124 came in and sank three ships Fircrest, Harpalyce and Stakesby from the HX-65.Question being which parts were labelled A and B? and why? john
