Hi everyone

Can anybody give me any guidance as to the abbreviated rank information.

I have a list from good ole google of the german navy ranks - and I have a cross reference of the U31 POW's when she was captured in Nov 1940.

I am looking particularly at Wilheim Schnittger - shown StOStrm. What does that mean.

Schnittger, Wilhelm StOStrm. 22.11.1904 Bremerhaven 11.03.1940 off Wilhelmshaven Wilhelmzhaven. Block.Ea-105. U 31+

We think he was the recipient of a U Boat War Badge, and his effects were handed to my great uncle on the capture of U31 in Nov 1940.

The war badge has W Sch scratched into the back, and the only correlating name appears to be his.

Any advise or guidance would be greatly appreicated.
