<HTML>Hi Thomas
U 583 was a VIIC Type U-boat and was Commissioned on
14/8/41. She served with 5 U-Flottille, Kiel -Aug 1941-15/11/41
as a U-boat under training. (Ausbildungsboot) Commanded by
KL Henrich Ratsch. On the 15/11/1941, U 583 was carrying out
training exercises in the Baltic off Danzig, when she collided with
U 153. U583 sank with her crew of 45-all dead.
U 153 was damaged and her training was delayed for repairs in
the dockyards. U 153 was an IXC Type U-boat which in a bigger
boat than VIIC Type. Training U-boats crews was all a hard task
especailly underwater and this collision was a result of an error
by the training crew which cost them their lives.
