Yes, you are correct.! The TR-1700 was designed by Thyssen
Nordseewerke at Emden, having been developed from a slightly
smaller TR-1400. Both were intended for export to meet the
anticipated market of submarines as the large numbers of WWII
designs such as the ex-US Navy Guppies and Ex-Soviet Whiskies
class subs which reached obsolescence in the 1980\'s.
Only one country -Argentina ordered the design.
