<HTML>Mike and Joe,
Mike - No, it was Bombay. I first heard it when I was on a Ton and we did some work with the RAF ASR boats operating out of Yarmouth. The big game play - RAF A/C ditches - and gallant ASR Brylcreem boys dash out in a flurry of foam
( and lots of smoke from their Paxtons - shotgun cartridge starts and more exhaust fumes than the average Russian airliner ) while we - easy Navy style - bimbled along and dropped the marker bouy.....lots of 'what kept you?' and exchanges about all that speed being useless unless you were really sailors....and what were the RAF doing in boats anyway!
At the subsequent joint forces run ashore - the pub was called The Hole in The Wall - one of them remarked it was Sunday and would we be having a church parade as they were all confirmed Free Church of Bombay. Hence it stuck! Maybe the pipe your mate made was to celebrate the port at the time? Whatever...!
Joe - Right! Apology accepted but now attend Commander's Defaulters with trousers, neatly pressed and folded, over the rught arm! What drafts did you have in the Andrew, Joe? Plus RFA - you never know, I might have rocket-lined from you a couple of times!
