<HTML>Hello All
Since Rainer thinks it may be a French sub...it may be a Surcouf class boat?
The only design that combine all these features found by CA 35 was the French Surcouf submarine.? Ordered under the 1926 programme as the first in a class of 3, the boat was built by the Cherbourg Naval Dockyard and was the only boat of it's class to be completed, it was also the largest sub in the world in terms of displacement, although is was shorter that both the U.S "Narwhal" and the Japanese "A" class subs. However, the Surcouf has a good claim to having been the only successful specialised sub ever completed and put into service.
It may of been taken by the German in secret during the occupation of France..?
At it's time it was a large & advance boat with particular capabilities provided by its combination of two large-calibre guns in a twin turret form in front of the conning tower and provision for a scout floatplane hangar aft of the conning tower .
So this may be the scan images that CA 35 may have found.? But only time will tell for sure, if it is a French Surcouf sub taken over by the Germans during WWII.?
