<HTML>Hi Ludovic and Joe,
I was not talking abt the Surcouf. By 1940 she was an outdated old dinosaur built with WW1 technology.
In the '38/39 budget the French had authorized 4 large ocean going subs with abt 1600ts surface displacement and in excess of 2100 ts submerged displ., two of them were incomplete on the slipways of Worms, Rouen when the Germans rolled in.
La Martinique was the only one completed during late '43 and spent part of '44 in the Eastern Baltic for trials etc. She was seen in Danzig, Gotenhafen and Pillau at that time. Rgds, RB</HTML>
