My late father,Robert Booth, was a shipyard worker at the Electric Boat Co. in Groton,CT during WWII.He was classified 4F & unfit for the military. During his life he told me many times of the Surcouf being followed outby USS Mackerel & Marlin who's crewmen told, under the influence of drink, about sinking the Surcouf. Alledgedly her (Surcouf) crew were Vichy French & passing intel and/or refueling uboats. Many years later when I was in my teens a local scuba diver claims to have found the Surcouf wreck(again this info from my father who still working at E in an area where you can see 3 states-Rhode Island,Connecticut and New York. My father,by the way,was not known for telling wild stories and he was an honest man. This scuba diver was threatened by the government to keep his mouth shut and since he was a professional diver too he did. Back during 60's in the US government threats were taken seriously.
