Hi Joe!
You know this is what happens when I am trying to tell things
from memory, and not from researching in my books!
I have been in the attic today and brought down
a big picture (painting) of my Grand Father´s Ship.
The painting is 80 cm x 50 cm and it is showing
the Swedish Merchant Ship YMER.
THAT was the ship my Grandfather sailed in during WW 2 !!!!
No YMER was not sunk in WW II.
I think my Grandfather sailed on her in the early -50s also.
I remember meeting him when I was around 4 y o,
between sailings,
He was speaking very very loud, and was half deaf,
probably due to his working enviroment in the noisy machine room.
He told my Father about overcoming the fears of working
under the waterline in torpedoe or mined waters.
As a 10 y o boy I remember him giving me a bomb shrapnel
that he had found on the deck of YMER,during the war years.
He was bombed by both RAF and the LUFTWAFFE,
I even think he was sailing in Mediterranian waters,
but neither he nor YMER got a scratch during WW 2.
Best regards/Anders.
