<HTML>Hi Jake!

Call me Craig. Mr. McLean sounds so formal amongst us comrades here!

How do your additional points of the compass work? I\'m lost beyond a 16-point compass...unless you just go with straight azimuths (compass directions), by number.

Actually, in the infantry, we usually just went by the numbers....having to convert from magnetic to grid (or visa versa) azimuths according to the local declination diagram. Grid (map) and magnetic (taken by compass on the ground) azimuths always varied by a few degrees, for plotting purposes, which over long distances could mean a large variance--and had to be taken into account as far as maneuvering around and so on.

Somehow, I\'ll bet nautical readings might be an entirely different animal....

sign me \"curious\"

Regards,

Craig :)</HTML>
