Kptlt. Lothar von Arnauld de la Periere

<HTML>Hi Kameraden,

When I read about the WWI part of this net, I came across this Kptlt. Lothar von Arnauld de la Periere, who was the commander of SM U 35 and was the most successful U-boat skipper of all time. Altogether he sank 194 ships totalling 454,000 tons, an amazing record which still stands today. He was awarded the Pour le merite for his achievements in WWI. It is said that he joined the German Navy again in 1939, but died during an aircraft accident near Paris, France in 1941.

Now I wonder what rank did he hold in the Kriegsmarine and what were his responsibilities then. I also would appreciate any additional information regarding his plane crash in France in 1941. Many thanks!
